Event Description

Hopetoun Brown and the Genius of Finn Scholes

Tim Stewart and Nick Atkinson have been playing together since their teens as the Supergroove horn section and in recent years this duo have performed as Hopetoun Brown using just voice, trumpet, trombone, percussion and bass clarinet. Together, they were 2017 Taite Prize finalists.

But for this tour they have teamed up with arguably the country’s finest trumpet player, Finn Scholes for a unique journey through rhythm and blues, soul and jazz.

These three multi-instrumentalists travel with a boot-load of exotic instruments. Bass clarinets, tubas and trombones, trumpets, saxophones and an assortment of strange keyboard instruments. Lead singer Tim Stewart’s large boots will rattle the floorboardss throughout the nation as the band work through their repertoire, including their new album Don't Let Them Lock You Up!

“It’s the pervading sense of fun together with a respect for antique jazz, blues, plantation work songs, doo-wop and funk that gives Hopetoun Brown their edge.”- Metro

Hats off to the Listener this week (March 17-23) for a top review for Hopetoun Brown’s latest recording.

You can also hear them in an interview/live with Jesse Mulligan on Radio NZ Live on Friday 20 April.

Its pretty straightforward.  When you sign up you'll be asked a few questions to make sure you're not a robot or some malevolent marketing tyrant somewhere exotic.

It will ask you for a picture - the site prefers JPG to all other formats.  However, you're not obliged to give one, and you'll be given a patchwork world image.  Quite fitting really!

If you've stopped getting emails from us (usually a news and events update every 2-3 weeks), its most likely you've changed your email address, and not told the site.

You can update this by clicking on the little cog/Settings button (just above here, up by the photos of members) and this will take you to your page, and there's an option to change your email.
